What is roof rack or crossbar whistle?
Many crossbars or roof racks that do not have grooved rubber pieces will create a whistling noise over certain speeds. As long as your cross bars are installed correctly, have all gaps sealed and they are not missing any pieces, our grooved rubber strips will take this whistle away. It is important to not confuse crossbar whistle with elevated wind noise. All added pieces to your roof will create extra wind noise and our AeroGrips will not reduce this. AeroGrips are designed to stop the whistling noise associated with smooth airflow. A wind faring can be used in addition to our AeroGrips to both stop the whistling and reduce the added turbulence from your roof racks. If you are hearing excessive wind turbulence or buffeting, a fairing is the correct tool to reduce this. AeroGrips and wind fairings are intended to work together and they are not substitutes for one another.
How It Works
Stop Crossbar Whistle
Smooth airflow over an airfoil-like surface, such as a crossbar, causes drag and in many instances, whistling noises. While some crossbar designs are more aerodynamic than others, smooth airflow over crossbar surfaces will always cause a whistle.
Properly installing NXTGEN AeroGrips™ to crossbars that do not have grooved aerodynamic strips will eliminate this whistle.

No more howling, whistling crossbars!! We purchased a new Mazda CX-50 with factory crossbars and had to remove them from the car within the first week because we couldn’t stand the howling and whistling coming from the crossbars.
